It’s been a while that Google has been realigning its algorithms in order to provide its customers with Spam and Virus-free mail. And this has been quite a challenge for most marketers as well as email marketing software providers.
But on Tuesday (April 15, 2014), Google updated its privacy policies making it crystal clear that it scans your email content.
Amendments to Google’s privacy policy included statements conveying that its automated systems analyze user content, including emails, to provide contextual content and ads – customized search results, tailored advertising, and spam and malware detection.
With this update, Google has openly declared that it has the right to use, host, store, reproduce, modify, create derivative works, communicate, publish, publicly display and distribute all the content uploaded, submitted, sent or received by its users across all of its services.
Interestingly, this announcement comes in at a time when Google is already being sued over privacy infringement issues (email scanning). Speaking optimistically, this comes in just in time to enable Google stand its ground against Microsoft’s ‘Scroogled’ campaign that takes a cheap-shot at Google over issues such as email scanning.
Whatever be Google’s explanation to this announcement, the fact of the matter puts is – YOU ARE BEING WATCHED! And that’s a scary thought…
